## Lesson Plan: Basic Tech for Junior Secondary 1
### Topic: Board Practice 1
#### Objectives:
- Students will understand the fundamental concepts of board practice.
- Students will learn the use of basic drafting tools.
- Students will be able to draw and label simple geometric shapes.
- Students will develop skills in precision and neatness in drawing.
#### Duration:
- 1 Hour
#### Materials Needed:
- Drawing boards
- T-squares
- Set squares (45° and 30°/60° triangles)
- Compasses
- Protractors
- Drawing pencils (HB and 2H)
- Erasers
- Drawing paper (A3 size)
#### Lesson Structure:
1. **Introduction (10 Minutes)**
- Begin by explaining the importance of board practice in Basic Tech.
- Discuss how it forms the foundation for more advanced technical drawing and engineering practices.
- Introduce the basic tools used in board practice.
2. **Demonstration (15 Minutes)**
- Show students how to set up their drawing boards at the correct height and angle.
- Demonstrate the proper way to handle and use the T-square and set squares.
- Explain and show how to draw basic geometric shapes such as squares, rectangles, triangles, and circles using these tools.
3. **Guided Practice (20 Minutes)**
- Hand out drafting materials to students.
- Guide students in setting up their drawing boards.
- Lead them in drawing a simple set of shapes: a square, rectangle, equilateral triangle, and a circle.
- Circulate the room to offer individual assistance and ensure proper technique.
4. **Independent Practice (10 Minutes)**
- Provide students with a worksheet that includes instructions to draw more shapes, like hexagons and regular polygons, using only a compass and set squares.
- Encourage students to complete these shapes on their own, ensuring they label each shape neatly.
5. **Review and Feedback (5 Minutes)**
- Collect some samples of students' work to discuss with the class, highlighting well-executed examples and providing constructive feedback on areas that need improvement.
- Summarize the key points of the lesson and emphasize the importance of practice to gain proficiency.
#### Assessment:
- Observe students during guided practice to provide immediate feedback.
- Review the accuracy and neatness of students' independent drawings.
#### Homework:
- Assign students to practice drawing more complex shapes at home using the techniques learned in class.
- Prepare them for the next class by asking them to research the uses of different geometric shapes in real-world technical drawing (e.g., engineering, architecture, design).
#### Extension Activity:
- For advanced students, introduce the concept of scaling drawings. Teach them how to enlarge and reduce shapes using a scale ruler.
### Reflection:
- After the lesson, reflect on students' engagement and understanding.
- Adjust future lessons based on areas where students showed difficulties or excelled.
By the end of this lesson, students should feel comfortable using basic drafting tools and creating simple geometric shapes with precision and neatness.
